What is Agile Methodology
Agile methodologies are work models that emerged in the early 21st century to ensure greater agility in delivering value to clients and stakeholders in software development.
One of their greatest contributions was to move away from traditional project management models, such as waterfall, which is still widely applied today in civil construction and engineering projects.
In this way, by adopting strategies and work frameworks capable of delivering software functionalities gradually, to be tested, validated, and refined as quickly as possible, ensuring a continuous flow of deliveries to the client.
And it is in this way that Construct IN has developed its software.
Agile Culture and Civil Construction
We know that this construction sector has very conventional methods and processes, which often keeps this area away from agile methodologies and other innovative initiatives.
However, this reality is changing; companies and construction professionals are seeking new ways to work and thus make the sector more agile and productive.
In a conversation with Pablo Acosta, Product Owner of Laçador Digital, it was possible to understand more about the methodologies of an agile culture and its importance for a company and project development.
In addition to inspiring the entire Construct IN team, the training with Pablo provoked reflection on what Civil Construction has to learn from agile methodologies.
What We Learned
We identified that there are some principles that can be adapted to architecture and engineering projects, as well as to other products and services in the construction industry. Check it out below:
Talk to your clients. Want to improve your results and sales? Talk to your clients, understand their journey, expectations, and what they find valuable. In this way, it is possible to map and make the necessary improvements in your organization’s processes.
Delivery of value. After understanding what your client considers valuable, keep in mind that anything not focused on delivering that to them is waste and should be eliminated or optimized. This is one of the principles of Lean Construction - a work methodology that is gaining traction in Brazilian civil construction.
Value Individuals and interactions. Being tied to processes and tools often hinders communication and creates noise. For this reason, prioritizing contact and conversations with people to understand their needs facilitates understanding and delivery of results. This does not mean abandoning processes and tools, but ensuring that the flow of information is not broken by them.
Therefore, these principles, when adapted to our reality, can make a difference in civil construction.
