Did you know that when working on architecture projects or construction sites, it is necessary to make the RRT (Technical Responsibility Registration)?

If you still have questions about when and how to make this registration, don't worry! We will explain everything you need to know to follow the process without complications in a simple way.

What is RRT (Technical Responsibility Registration)?

The RRT, which stands for Technical Responsibility Registration, is a document aimed at Architects, Urban Planners, and Safety Engineering Specialists.

It is mandatory to certify that a work, project, or service has a qualified responsible party with regular registration with the Council.

When to make the RRT?

There are some specific situations, according to the “RRT GUIDE”:

1. Every time the professional is going to perform a technical task from the following groups

  • Project;

  • Execution;

  • Management;

  • Specific activities of Architecture and Urbanism;

  • Safety Engineering (only engineers in the area)

  • Teaching and Research;

  • Environment and Regional and Urban Planning.

In the Guide, you will find all the information about the activities of each of them.

- Also read: 4 essential tools for civil engineers

2. The professional needs to register their technical responsibility before or by the conclusion of the other activities

This rule is only not valid when there is an official emergency situation. In that case, the RRT can be done afterward.

3. When a professional in Architecture and Urbanism or Engineering performs activities in different groups, they need to make an RRT for each one

For example, if they are designing and also executing the work, they will need to issue two RRTs: one for the project and another for the execution.

4. All professionals participating in an activity – whether in the project, execution of the work, or any other technical service – need to issue the RRT

This means that if multiple people are working on the same project, they are all responsible for that work and must formalize this responsibility in the RRT.

Types of RRT

There are 4 different types of RRT (Technical Responsibility Registration):

1. Simple RRT

This is the most common option. This is where you should indicate which of the seven groups of activities you will be responsible for in the work. In this type, it is possible to include several subtasks within the same group, but only if all are performed in the same location.

2. Multiple Monthly RRT

The Multiple Monthly RRT is used to register specific technical activities, such as inspections, reports, or evaluations made in the month.

It is useful for professionals who do short-term work, even if done on different days, as long as they are for the same client.

Specialized professionals in Safety Engineering can also use it for activities such as reports and inspections.

3. Minimum RRT

This mandatory document is a bit different from the others, as it is aimed at projects and executions of smaller works, up to 70 m². The Minimum RRT is also aimed at architects and urban planners who will work on government social housing projects in Brazil.

4. Derived RRT

If you have done any work before 2012 and used ART (Technical Responsibility Annotation), you can register these activities now, updating your professional history. This modality is free and only needs to be approved by the CAU.

How to register your RRT?

  • The first step is to go to the CAU Information and Communication System (SICCAU) website;

  • Find the option for the Technical Responsibility Document Model;

  • In “Registration Form”, select the “Initial RRT” option (if you want to register a new one). If it's to correct, use the “Rectifying RRT” option.

Is the Technical Responsibility Registration free?

No. It is necessary to pay a fee via a boleto generated after registration.
